EXCURSIONS - Classic Tour of the Island
This excursion allows to discover Holbox’s surroundings. It includes a visit to the Cenote Yalahau (Ojo de Agua), to Passion Island and Bird Island. Begins with a thirty minutes boat drive towards the continent, between Chiquila’ and El Cuyo, where there is a small harbour. A path in the mangroves will direct you towards an open space with trees and soft ground. A palapa equipped with tables and barbecue grill will be your best spot where to eat good fish and have a relaxing time. Few meters away, following a small river, there is a natural swimming pool with spring falls coming out from the rocks. Fresh, relatively shallow and made of sweet water the cenote reaches the sea. People tell that a bath in its waters is really regenerative and can result in feeling ten years younger. If somebody wants to explore a bit more there is also the opportunity to walk shortly into the jungle and search for a few small ruins reachable only by a human path not well known. On the way back, close to Holbox, there is Passion Island, a small atoll with a round shape and quite recent. Only white sand, few mangroves and a lot of peace. Not far away another island. It is considered the paradise of many species of birds and has an irregular form. Its characteristics and geographical position indicate Bird Island as the best spot in the surroundings where birds can reproduce and nest. Ideal for animal lover and active bird watchers.
